San Francisco Tours by Bus

san francisco tours by bus

San Francisco Tours This was our biggest ticket activity and the easiest of all the San Francisco tours. Planning ahead gets you the 10% off discounted price at $34.20/adult and $18/kid for the standard 24hr ticket if you order through the Big Bus San Francisco Tours website. Tour guides can be hit or miss. Luckily we got more hits than the one miss... a gal who kept barking like a seal when she didn't have something to say. Even the people on the bus parked next to us snapped their heads our way when they heard her barking and laughed when they realized it was our tour guide and not some crazy seal that made it onto the roof of our bus. Stay in your seat when the bus is moving and do … Click to continue

Muir Woods Redwood Forest

Muir Woods Redwood Forest

REDWOOD FOREST - MUIR WOODS NATIONAL MONUMENT Our family loves watching old movies, the older the better! The Gnome Mobile from 1967 is one of them. The Banks children from Mary Poppins are the lead actors and it is filmed in the Redwood Forest. Since that's where gnomes live, and I dig gnomes, it was on our list of what to do in San Francisco. I'm not sure where the movie was filmed exactly, but we were interested in seeing any part where we could "walk among the giants." Muir Woods National Monument is about a 40 minute drive from downtown San Francisco (across the Golden Gate Bridge) with the last few miles being windy. Traffic and parking was not bad during the week at the end of … Click to continue

San Francisco China Town

San Francisco china town

SAN FRANCISCO CHINA TOWN Wandering around San Francisco in China Town takes a lot of energy because there's lots of ground to cover and non-stop stores to shop in. The kids (ages 8-14) loved the many toys, gadgets, medicinal remedies, clothes, candies, weaponry, and anime art. The adults (I'm not telling ages) enjoyed the people watching (crazy tourists, mostly; like the family who put on those grass hats, pulled the corners of their eyes out, and spoke gibberish as they got their picture taken), getting hounded by shopkeepers (which is expected in Chinatown), and food choices (stuff you recognize and stuff you don't want to know what it is because it's unrecognizable). CHINESE … Click to continue

Mavericks Surf Beach

Mavericks surf beach

We were searching for the famous Mavericks surf spot or something, I wasn't sure and followed my amateur surfing husband's lead until I realized none of us knew where to go and stopped for directions. The guy informed us that the Mavericks Surf Beach we thought we wanted was actually Pillar Point north of Half Moon Bay and the "Mavericks" were actually a mile off shore in the middle of the water; so not actually a spot we could see from shore. Sigh. Hopefully you'll see this post and avoid the disappointment we felt realizing we wouldn't be seeing one of the top things my husband wanted to see while in San Francisco. HOWEVER, we had an absolute blast exploring the beach at Pillar … Click to continue

Jelly Belly Factory Tour

Jelly Belly Factory Tour

What to do in San Francisco Alright, the Jelly Belly factory tour isn't IN San Francisco, but it's definitely worth putting in the What To Do in San Francisco series because it's not too far (under an hour), it's free, and it's absolutely fun with kids (and without if you like How It's Made type learning). A tip for you is to be prepared for an excruciatingly long wait if you see busses in the parking lot. Apparently we happened to be there on the same day a bunch of preschools were there. Wish they had a better system for huge groups or fair warning so we could plan better. The tour went quickly as the it alternated between a guide and video of how the Jelly Belly factory runs. We … Click to continue

San Francisco Private Beach

san francisco private beach

What To Do in San Francisco - a private-ish beach! Finishing our What To Do in San Francisco series is BEACH TIME! We planned to spend a day at the beach to play in the water, lounge in the sand, and take in the ocean breeze. GRAY WHALE COVE STATE BEACH On our way to Mavericks Surf Beach at Half Moon Bay, we spied Gray Whale Cove State Beach with ample parking... across the road. Be careful getting across highway 1. There isn't a cross walk and visibility is slight. Getting to the beach is a trek along dirt paths and/or down a hundred steep steps. There's a really steep and slippery dirt slope to the left of the tree (photo above), but if you take the path on the right just past … Click to continue

61 Dream Home Decorating Ideas

61 dream home decorating ideas

DREAM HOME IDEAS Last June, a friend and I trekked from Spanish Fork to Lehi in search of over 20 Utah Valley Parade of Homes with the hopes of seeing new decorating ideas and wall treatments. Being Parade of Homes and Street of Dreams fans, we knew it'd take more than a day to get to them all, so take it from us and plan accordingly. Although neither of us are in the market to move, we're always up for ideas we want to implement into our dream home (or make the one we have dreamy)! WHAT WE LIKED AND WHAT WE DIDN'T We liked the pebble ice machine in the Provo house as well as the decor professionally designed by Caitlin Creer and Alice Lane Home. My dream home would be designed by them, … Click to continue

Girls Rule Printable in IKEA Frame

GIRLS RULE PRINTABLE Girls rule, don't you think? Print this out for the spunky, creative, or sweet girl you know who would smile at these reminders of having fun and living to her fullest potential. Of course I wouldn't suggest these shouldn't be carried out all at the same time, all the time, right? Do one or more, here and there, everywhere, and blossom a bouquet full of happy! This Girls Rule print was designed specifically to fit in the $9.99 IKEA Norrlida 28.375 x 12.125 frame (print size is 8.5 x 24.5). The frame comes with a matt board with black on one side (as seen in the photo) and white on the other (there's a hint of linen texture to them). We like the way the black  makes the … Click to continue

Salad Dressing Portion Control & Easy Pour

If you like ranch dressing and a wee bit o' sass to your food, try the Jalapeño Ranch dressing & dip from Litehouse. It's not "spicy" but it does have a kick. For reference, I'm a zero to one star Thai food girl, prefer mild salsa to medium, and like to sprinkle a little Tabasco sauce on my scrambled eggs. What's with the GIGANTOUS hole in the top of salad dressings that pour buckets of it on your lettuce? Calorie counting lately with My Fitness Pal curbed my dressing habits. Instead of pouring it on, I dip my fork into it then stab a bite of salad. Still get the flavor without the calories I can use later on a snack. I have a solution for the never ending pour... find a restaurant … Click to continue

How to Faux Hawk on the Cheap

Faux hawk girl short hair how to on the cheap

Beautician I am not, but when enough people dig my 'do (every day I get complimented on my hair by strangers) and ask, "How do you get it to stick up like that," I figure someone out there might want an instructional. If not, you may find these non-flattering photos of me entertaining. I use minimal/cheap products because I'm broke, not because I have anything against expensive goop. By all means, you're welcome to send me the expensive stuff. Straight out o' the shower (except I got dressed, which I rarely do because it makes me sweaty) and excess water rubbed off with the towel. My four supplies are: hair dryer, göt2b kinkier spray gel (because that's what I have on hand; I use it to … Click to continue
